SICK's corporate commitment to the environment is in the tradition of the company founder, Dr. Erwin Sick. Back in 1956, he invented the first flue gas density measuring device because protecting the environment and humans from industrial fumes was a matter close to his heart. We are continuing this tradition with our sustainability strategy and commitment to environmental sustainability.

SICK not only makes a contribution with its intelligent sensor technology, but also with comprehensive measures in all controllable company processes. For almost 20 years, SICK has been operating a certified environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001. This system is used to certify all production sites worldwide. In addition, relevant sites were expanded to include European environmental standard EMAS (Environmental Management and Audit Scheme) and an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001. The goal of the environmental management system is to optimize or eliminate negative environmental impacts as much as is possible. A three-stage climate and environmental protection strategy was also created in 2013.

Concrete environmental goals in 14 initiatives

With a strategy revised in 2019 and focused on ecological sustainability, SICK is expanding its environmental protection activities globally to all major fields of action. Environmental protection measures are integrated into products and processes throughout the entire product life cycle in order to protect the environment from negative impacts as much as possible. Each business unit has been examined with regard to its ecological optimization potential and given specific targets. These are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals relevant to SICK. Other standards against which the SICK sustainability strategy is measured are the German Sustainability Code (DNK) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
